Who we are! (Forget Me Not)

In 2016, three Camden County residents—Dianne Torgersen, Denise Oravec, and David Schmitz—who had personal connections to Alzheimer’s disease, recognized the pressing need for an Alzheimer’s Walk to continue being held within Camden County. Their aim was to ensure that the Alzheimer’s community could participate in a local, meaningful walk without the inconvenience of traveling to Glynn County.

By 2018, this dedicated group orchestrated the largest third-party (independent) Alzheimer’s Walk in Georgia. From 2016 to 2018, the Camden County Walk raised over $120,000 for the national Alzheimer’s organization.

In 2019, the steering committee made a pivotal decision to establish a non-profit organization, ensuring that funds raised remained within Camden County to provide vital support to local residents and caregivers, while remaining steadfast in their dedication to advancing Alzheimer’s research.

We are committed to continuously building upon these achievements and upholding our pledge to ensure our community of caregivers and neighbors affected by Alzheimer’s disease is never forgotten, providing them with ongoing support.

Why We Walk for Alzheimer's

  • To honor those living with the disease
  • In memory of those lost to the disease
  • To show that we care enough to work for better treatment, and a cure
  • In gratitude to those researchers, doctors, and support staff that are dedicated to ending the disease
  • To provide support for the family members and professionals who dedicate their lives to caring for those living with the disease
